4 Reasons For Hair Loss

The truth is that when it comes to hair loss, the reasons could be any number of things.

Some people lose hair due to genetics, some from stress, some from poor hair care, and then some from illness. However, the four main reasons for hair loss are discussed below. Keep in mind that with many new medications and treatment options now available, both men and women going through some level of baldness are getting help.

Health Issues

A number of illnesses or health conditions are directly linked to hair loss or thinning. In most cases, once the health issue is resolved, the hair will begin to thicken up or regrow. Some of the more common problems are associated with the following

    • Alopecia Areata (immune system disorder)
    • Alpaca Areata Universalis (total body hair)
    • Burn
    • Diabetes
    • Fungal infection to the scalp
    • High temperature
    • Hormonal Imbalance
    • Lupus
    • Medical treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy
    • Medication
    • Ringworm
    • Thyroid and pituitary
    • Trichotillomania (pulling hair out)
    • Vitamin A (high levels)

Stress Issues

Stress can have a direct impact on hair loss. For this, you might see someone having gone through a divorce losing hair. Someone that has recently undergone surgery could also have a problem with hair loss. Even new mothers (and fathers) may experience more hair loss than normal. The body responds to stress in a number of ways, one of those being the loss of hair. Again, once stress is brought under control, the hair loss problem corrects itself.

Hair Care

Poor hair care can also result in hair loss. For instance, brushing hair while wet, using a blow dryer, styling hair while wet, over-processing with color or permanents, using harsh shampoos and low quality conditioners, and teasing or backcombing are all culprits.

Genetics

The genetic predisposition for men and women to lose hair is Androgenetic Alopecia. For men, the term "male pattern baldness" is often used. However, this condition is the cause of more than 95% of all pattern hair loss cases

In addition to these four reasons for hair loss, there are many others to include constant pulling from hair weaves or extensions, environment such as chemical exposure, menopause, and more. Rather than just deal with the loss, speak with your doctor to see if options for your hair loss are available.
